In the website ISIDEWITH, I picked the topic of police officers wearing body cameras. Out of the 6 million votes in the entire country, 80% said yes officers should wear body cameras and 20% said no they should not. 12% of the 80% that said yes think they should wear body cameras to protect both officers and citizens. 5% of those that said no said this because they believe the officer and police department should choose if they want to or don’t want to wear cameras. In just Illinois, out of more than 295,000 votes, 79% said officers should wear cameras and 21% said they should not. To narrow this down even more, in just the city of Chicago, 81% said cameras should be worn and 19% said it should not be. This number most likely increased because people from other citizens that live in quieter cities than Chicago probably think the crimes are not that bad and that it would be unnecessary. I think officers should always wear body cameras during their shifts. If police wear body cameras it will eliminate a lot of police brutality cases and issues. Also, there is a video on the internet of a police officer that forgot his camera was on and was caught planting drugs in the trunk of a man’s car. It is important that the camera was watched and evaluated because without it, the man would get many years in jail.
